Enables multiple monitors to be connected to any laptop or desktop (one adapter required per monitor, up to six on Windows PCs), all standard USB 2.0. Supports any monitor or projector with standard VGA/D-Sub connector (does not support DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort-only monitors).

Uses

Most people use it to gain a second or third monitor for their laptop. You gain the benefits of USB, including plug and play connectivity. Multitask with a dedicated monitor for each document or application. Connect displays or projectors at a distance with inexpensive USB cabling.

Performance

Supports monitors and PC-compatible TVs up to 1920x1080 or 1600x1200. Dual core or 2Ghz or better CPU recommended. With USB 2.0's 480Mbps bus limit, motion video and 3D gaming is not recommended at higher resolutions.

Compatibility

Windows 8.1/8/7/XP drivers installed automatically via Windows Update. 32 and 64 bit supported for Win7,8, and 8.1. Win 8 Metro DRM apps for video play back (such as Netflix, Hulu) do not work in the presence of DisplayLink drivers. GPU is used for 2D/3D rendering on Windows, requiring Intel, nVidia, or ATI primary WDDM driver with Aero enabled. Not compatible with ARM-based Windows (MS Surface RT). Mac is not supported due to significant limitations in the operating system. Open source available for Linux and other platforms. Linux requires manual configuration--for advanced users only. USB graphics devices with drivers from different chipset vendors (MCT, SMSC, DisplayLink, etc.) should not be mixed on the same system.

*Since the Sabrent UGA-2K-195 adapter is natively DVI, the HDMI support is only for video display; this adapter has no audio function.
(Audio can be transmitted separately and directly from the computer's sound card to the intended display or to speakers, but this is completely independent of the Display Adapter.)

Performance

USB graphics adapters work by rendering 2D/3D with your computer's CPU and GPU, and then compressing and transmitting the pixels that change over USB. Dual core or 2Ghz or better CPU recommended. Recommended for web and applications, not 3D gaming or motion video playback.

Connectivity

The package includes the main USB 2.0 to DVI-I adapter, a USB 2.0 cable and hardware adapters for the different connector types (DVI-I to VGA/D-Sub and DVI-I to HDMI). HDMI connections are graphics only--this adapter has no audio function. Supports monitors and PC-compatible TVs up to 1920x1080 or 1600x1200. Powered via USB; the adapter has an LED indicator light.

Supported Operating Systems

Windows 8.1/8/7 64 and 32 bit, XP SP2+ 32 bit only - We recommend downloading DisplayLink's newest driver.

Mac is not supported due to significant limitations in the operating system.

Requires Intel / AMD / nVidia main GPU and driver with Windows Aero enabled. USB graphics requires dual core or 2 Ghz or better CPU for best performance. Not compatible with ARM-based Windows (MS Surface RT). Windows RT, Vista Home Basic, Win7 Starter Edition disable multiple monitors and are not supported. No supported drivers are available for Linux at this time.
